Fashion Friday: It’s All In The Details

This Friday, I’m trying something new because… YOLO, right?

(Did I just type that? I did, didn’t I? Can we keep that between us?)

Today I’m showing you some of the details of my favorite pieces of clothing and jewelry!

Unfortunately for you, I’m a thrifter, so I can’t link directly to these items, but I can link to things that are similar.

This can be an inspiration board for people who are looking for their new favorites!

Faves-01

The middle of my flower earrings is oxidized, and there’s a little pearl. Awesome. Tekaandzoe make similar ones handmade.

Like this vintage cameo locket? Here’s one in a similar spirit.

I love the cream of this thrifted J. Crew sweater contrasted with the weird studs. For a similar cream, studded sweater, check out this one at goJane. There’s also one with cool elbow patches on Etsy.

Faves-02

This skull sweater is from ModCloth, but I also mention a few other skull sweaters on an older inspiration post here.

The second image is buttons from my military jacket. If you want to look at a sweet-ass $6,389.60 military jacket that’s absolutely nothing like mine, you should check this one out. Beautiful, right? Right.

One of my most commonly-commented on pieces is my green asymmetrical necklace with a circle, similar to this one. I also have an enormous honking cameo that is bedazzled to Hell and back. This is similar in size and length — a great statement piece.

Faves-04

Need to soup up a dress? PUT A BIRD ON IT. Alas, the Nevermore dress is out of stock, but I also love this bird branch dress.

If you type Robot Necklace into Etsy, you’ll find a million necklaces just like mine. But most people won’t know that, because they don’t sit on Etsy all day. They’ll go “what a cute necklace!” and think you’re special.

Jeans with a cool butt will make you feel spiffy. My jeans are from the Express ReRock collection. The fleur-de-lis on the tush screams “I’m a fan of Marie Antoinette!” Which I am.

I wear ugly Christmas sweaters all winter long. If you want to knit your own reindeer sweater, here’s an awesome-looking pattern. I also found a sweater vest that features a reindeer threesome with Rudolph in the center. I don’t know where one would wear that, but it exists.

Faves-03

I mostly wear just my wedding rings, but every once in a while, I like to throw a statement ring on my right hand. I have a bunch. Need inspiration? Check out this sweet-ass octopus ring with amethyst eyes. Release the kraken!

My space hoodie glows in the dark and has an astronaut appliqué. It can’t be beat. A close second, however, would be a glow-in-the-dark Space Invaders hoodie.

I’m not usually a fan of mustard, but my other bird dress has lovely pleats that sold me on it. If you want to branch out into warm tones, here’s a yellow bird dress from ModCloth. And here’s a wonderful blog post featuring bird-inspired fashion week finds.

I love my things, but never as much as I love you, Internet! Have a great weekend!

    Dear Starling,

I say “release the kraken!” all the time, but I am unsure of the phrase’s origins. Where the heck did I get that from? Also, i just drank half a bottle of champagne. yay!
    thanks,
    Alex

It was used in the Clash of the Titans adverts, and was later referenced in Paranormal Activity 2. Why I know that… I’m not sure.
